Origin Energy operates two pumping/power generation stations at Kangaroo Valley, which comprise part of the Shoalhaven Scheme.

Origin Energy's water access licence conditions and water supply work and water use approval

Commencement of the Water Sharing Plan for the Greater Metropolitan Region Unregulated River Water Sources 2011 has required Origin Energy's Part 9 Water Management Licence under the Water Act 1912 to be converted to water access licence (access licence) conditions and a water supply work and water use approval (combined approval) under the Water Management Act 2000. The access licence conditions and combined approval were issued to Origin Energy on 7 June 2013.

The access licence conditions and combined approval issued to Origin Energy authorise the access to water and interchange of water between Lake Yarrunga, Bendeela Pondage and Fitzroy Falls Reservoir for the purposes of power generation and define Origin Energy's monitoring and reporting requirements in accordance with the provisions of the water sharing plan. The combined approval also includes a condition in relation to the movement of water within the Shoalhaven Scheme to reduce the risk of transfer of blue-green algae between water storages.
